Hip Hop / Rap
Formed in 2014 by a group of misfits including Q-Dot and Draco Raj plus Shafiq Freezy on decks and Luke Boanerges on drums.
Tell us a bit about yourselves and your music.
In our humble beginnings, the goal was simply to put out music - to get Hybreed Society heard and recognized. Over the years, Hybreed Society has evolved with the addition of in-house production and DJing by ShafiqFreezy and video direction and production by Amin Mizar. Onstage, we also found our niche as a high energy, engaging crowd-favorite whenever our number is called.
Hip hop and rap's a big universe. Tell us more about your influences.
Q: We started off heavily influenced by artists such as Jay Park, Chris Brown, and Travis Scott, but we have carved out a space for ourselves in the Singapore Hip Hop scene - combining the best of multiple worlds to create a unique, proud brand of Hip Hop entertainment.
Your group cites SG a lot. What's your fav thing about it?
Q: The diversity in cultures and backgrounds, where there is a plethora of opportunities to learn from everyone regardless of background. This is also what brought us together – our shared love for Hip Hop. Being so diverse has helped us tremendously in how we plan and execute in everything from music production to video editing.
Your philosophy's "Different Personas, 1 Unit". Care to elaborate?
HS: We believe in bringing together the best of like-minded individual members and playing off of each other’s strengths to create the best product possible, whether on stage or in the recording booth. despite our differences, everybody is attuned to the same goal.
Amin: Despite our differences, everybody is attuned to the same goal. All we know is we want to make great songs and videos, that’s what drives us and what unites us. We’ve all got different styles that mesh well together in our products. We may have different personas, but in the end, we are one unit.
How do you want yout audience to react to your music?
SF: My hope for the audience is to feel and understand the songs that we’re deliver to them. My aim for them is to feel our energy and vibe along with us.
Fast forward to 2040. Where do you see yourselves?
Q: We see ourselves achieving our goals we’ve set for ourselves through music – going worldwide and working on creative projects of various mediums with talents all around the world.
